Stocking update

Just a quick note prior to my "start of Spring" blog. If your heading out today, try the river rd bridges on the holden side of river rd, and the rte 31 bridge. Those were hit last week by the stocking trucks.

Tigh lines!

  1. The river rd bridges were not stocked last week nor was the rte 31 bridge. I don't know where you get your information. The only place stocked according to everyone that was out last week was after the pumping station towards the Thomas basin part of the reservoir. If you want to get onto some trout try any part of the stillwater. The stillwater has been stocked twice at every bridge as of the beginning of this week.

  2. Anonymous is right - i had my dates mixed up. Stillwater is the hot topic right now. Rain should move them around good.

If you are going to comment here though, please do use a username. Too many anonymous running around...

  3. I was fly-fishing the Quinnie on Thursday the 17th just below the River St pool. Suddenly a bunch of anglers arrived -- I learned the stocking truck had been there 15 minute prior. In fact you could see a pod of 30+ big trout right under the bridge...not the usual 12-14" fish they put in other rivers. They did the same, as I understand it, at all the bridges that day.

  4. Hello all,
I am new to the quinine, I have never been. I was wondering what part of the river to go to and what fly to use? Thanks.

  5. The whole river is great. Park at the Rt. 31 bridge and work up or downstream, go in to the rail trail parking off River Rd. (access from the west), and work up or downstream. Park at River Rd. from the East near the reservoir and work upstream. For dries, an Elk Hair Caddis is as good as anything. For nymphs, use stoneflies, caddis larvae, copper johns, pheasant tails, or hairs ear nymphs.

  6. I like your blog, but it hasn't been updated in a year. Do you plan to keep it up regularly? I have been fishing the Quinnie for a long time and have been there a few times this week. It's a bit slow, but picking up. I am going to try in the high water.
